Canada
Canada’s student rules have changed a lot recently. We keep up with them so your study permit, visitor visa or family application is complete the first time.
Study permit
For college and university programmes at a designated learning institution (DLI).
Visitor visa
Tourism and visiting family, including parents visiting children.
Family & spousal applications
Joining a spouse or family member in Canada.
- You need a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI) to apply for a study permit.
- Most study permit applicants also need a provincial or territorial attestation letter (PAL/TAL). Quebec applicants generally need a CAQ instead.
- From 1 January 2026, master’s and doctoral students at public degree-granting institutions don’t need a PAL/TAL, but must still show proof they’re exempt.
- Changing schools now requires a new PAL/TAL.
Rules, fees and timelines change, and every application is different, they vary case by case. Talk to us for advice on your exact situation, and always check the official website before you apply.
